Everyone was disappointed when Garforth & District Lions had to cancel their Annual Community Gala because of bad weather, but they realized that one person would be particularly sad; their chosen Gala Queen for this year, Emily Vardy.

So as 11 year old Emily, of Strawberry Fields Primary School , Garforth was attending her School Prom it was "Gate Crashed" by some of the Lions who wanted to say sorry and present Emily with a bunch of flowers and some chocolates.

President Ken Woodhead said "We wanted Emily to know that she is still our Queen".He added "Although we had to cancel the Gala, we had sold quite a few programmes for the Event so we decided to use that money to donate £2,000 between each of our four local Hospices: St. Gemma's, Prince of Wales, Wheatfields and Martin House".
