German Handicapped Exchange

Every year for over 35 years a group Handicapped youths have enjoyed  exchange visits between Germany and Leeds.

In alternate years visitors from Yorkshire are taken to Germany by Lions from

Leeds, Garforth & District, Harrogate, Knaresborough,

  Leeds Skyrack,Otley,Rothwell District,Wetherby,Minster (York)

and then members of German Lions Clubs in

Bad Sooden Alendorf, Eschwege, Hann.Munden,Melsungen

 bring German Handicapped youths to visit us.

The clubs in our area each host one days outing during the weeks visit.

The group is entertained to days out

At Coast, visits to the Deep, Mining Museum and disco.

The party flew from Manchester Airport to Paderborn and then by coach to stay in Heli, a clinic in Hessich Lichtenau in the heart of Germany . Sale Lions Club helped at the airport.

Every day they had various activities organised by each of the German Lions Club, such as a trip to a nature park, a city tour in Gottingen , bowling, a reception with the Town Mayor in Melsungen, a disco, an air flight over the town of Witzenhausen in one of the German Lions own aircraft, followed by a barbeque, swimming and a farewell party at the clinic. The last day they all went to different Lion’s homes for lunch and a tour round the area.
