Lions Eye Health Programme (LEHP)
This a unique partnership between Lions Clubs International
The International Glaucoma Association The British Diabetic Association
Aimed at reducing the amount of unnecessary blindness caused by glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy ? the two leading causes of preventable blindness in the UK,
Together they account for up to 25% of people on the blind register
The Programme, launched on 14th October 1999, is intended to highlight the fact that neither condition gives any warning symptoms until a late stage when much irreversible damage has already been done to a person's sight.
The Yorkshire Air Ambulance Paramedics dropped into Garforth & District Lions Community Gala on Sunday to say thank you for the £1000 donation towards the operation of this vital emergency service.

from Garforth & District Lions club to enable them to teach their students
at any one of three learning centres in the area.
Lion President Dave Hill made the presentation to Margaret Handforth,
Chair of the Association, at the Castleford Community Learning Centre
where weekly classes are held on Monday afternoons.
Margaret explained that it is important that dyslexia sufferers don't feel
as though they are the only one with this problem and asks that anyone
suffering from dyslexia who needs help or a friendly ear call in at the

Garforth and District Lions donated £450 to complete the £1000 target for funds to create a special play area for children attending the Ear, Nose and Throat Outpatients Deptarment at Leeds General Infirmary .

Garforth & District Lions were particularly pleased to contribute as Lions member Ken Russell had recently under gone treatment at the ENT and felt this would be a good way of expressing his gratitude for the excellent care he recieved.

The Eddie the ElephaNT appeal, launced by the Leeds Weekly News in association with Asda saw contributions from the public as well as staff at Asda Killingbeck and the company themselves.
