The Yorkshire Air Ambulance Paramedics dropped into Garforth & District Lions Community Gala on Sunday to say thank you for the £1000 donation towards the operation of this vital emergency service.
This was just one of the attraction at the 9th Annual Gala held on Glebelands in Garforth.
The day started with a parade of floats decorated by local schools, and youth organisations with the £100 Best float Prize going to First Garforth Scouts Burma Troop.
The arena events, which included Maypole dancing by St Benedict's Primary School pupils, Boxo the Clown's magic and The Leeds City Pipe band, were all popular features. As ever the children's fun races had plenty of entrants and the mum' and dads even got a chance.
This fun day gave an opportunity to other charities to raise money themselves and Arthritis Research were not only delighted with the £135 they collected but also with the £100 first prize for best stall.
The whole day was presided over by Gala Queen, 10 year old Sophie Waterhouse from St Benedicts Primary School and she did a great job in judging the various competitions along with Club President Dave Hill.

Garforth and District Lions donated £450 to complete the £1000 target for funds to create a special play area for children attending the Ear, Nose and Throat Outpatients Deptarment at Leeds General Infirmary .

Garforth & District Lions were particularly pleased to contribute as Lions member Ken Russell had recently under gone treatment at the ENT and felt this would be a good way of expressing his gratitude for the excellent care he recieved.

The Eddie the ElephaNT appeal, launced by the Leeds Weekly News in association with Asda saw contributions from the public as well as staff at Asda Killingbeck and the company themselves.

When District 105C Speech & Hearing Officer, Dave Hill asked Michael Freeman, Deaf Instructor at Shakespeare Primary School in Leeds what would be at the Top of his wish list for his group his answer was a computer.
Lion Dave had no problem in selling the project to his club, Garforth & District Lions who agreed to supply the computer and a security cabinet in which it could be housed.
The equipment is to be used by a group, run by the Deaf and Hearing Impaired Social Services which takes 15 pre school deaf children at a time aged 3-5years from the Leeds area.
For some attending who are disadvantaged this is their first opportunity for a ?hands on experience?
Specific software was requested by the school which was installed by Lion Marcus Wilkinson who set up the equipment in its cabinet.
Michael Freeman said ?We are grateful to the Lions for providing this equipment which will be a big help in the children?s development.?
