Youth Programes
Although our association is actually an association of Clubs, each club is fully autonomous in its operations provided it is acting within the International Constitution. However as an International Association, many programmes are recommended and promoted throughout the worldwide organisation.
Drug Awareness Programme
Now part of the Youth Outreach Programme
Lions worldwide are conscious that of all the dangers facing society in general and youth in particular, probably none is more destructive than alcohol, solvent and drug abuse. We can become part of the solution to the problems by actively supporting the
Lions Drug Awareness Programme
aimed primarily at PREVENTION by both parent and child education
The support of qualified counselling organisations is always welcome but in District 105C we enthusiastically support LIONS QUEST,
Skills for Adolescence (SFA) a curriculum specifically designed for 11-14 year olds being introduced into schools by Lions sponsorship.
More than 4,000 schools have adopted the programme, and, importantly, more than 8,000 teachers have been trained in it's application.
Skills for The Primary School Child ( SPSC ) is another initiative which is aimed at 5 to 11 year olds .
Lions TACADE Skills for Life (SIA) was launched in 1994 to cater for the 11 -16 year olds
All of these programmes resulted from a very successful and ongoing relationship with our partners in this area
( TACADE ) The Teachers Advisory Council for Alcohol and Drug Education
During the past 10 years in the UK, over 100 local Education Authorities, thousands of schools and many thousands of teachers have become involved and the need still remains for our support as more and more schools take up or extend the programme and fresh intakes come into participating schools
Youth Programmes
Leo Clubs
In 1968 approval was given for sponsorship of Youth Clubs as an official activity for Lions Clubs, to be known as "LEO CLUBS". The purpose of these clubs as stated in the constitution is :-
To offer young adults the opportunity of helping others through organised and productive service activities.
To provide an opportunity for young adults to develop leadership through co-operation with other Leos and through service to the community.
To foster an awareness on the part of Leos for others less fortunate than themselves.
Membership is open to young men and women between the ages of 15 and 28 years.
Youth Centres
This is an International Youth Activity and the Multiple District, each year, hosts a Youth Camp which is attended by young persons from many countries. Each club in the M.D. is asked to donate towards the cost of the Centre which is free of charge to participants and each Sub-District must host a camp in rotation. Any Lions Club can sponsor an application for a youth in their area to attend a Youth Centre in most overseas countries
Youth Award
An annual award is made to an individual or group who has shown outstanding accomplishments in Leadership and Community Involvement and is chosen from one of 13 Sub-District Competition Winners. Each club is encouraged to find and recognise the achievements of a young person in their club area to go forward to Regional and there-after District and Multiple District Finals.
